ENTRY 8

ASHLEY PASTORIN

My journey with MIL has been an enlightening one. I've learned to question sources, to discern fact from fiction, and to critically analyze the information I encounter. This isn't just about avoiding fake news; it's about understanding the biases and agendas that shape the information we consume.

One of the most impactful lessons has been the importance of **source verification**. In the past, I might have readily accepted information presented online without considering its origin. Now, I actively seek out the source, checking its reputation and credibility. Another key is the understanding of **media bias**. Recognizing that all media outlets have inherent biases helps me approach information with a critical eye. I've learned to identify the perspectives being presented, consider potential motivations, and seek out diverse viewpoints to form a more balanced understanding.

This awareness has not only empowered me to be a more informed consumer of information but also to become a more responsible sharer. Before amplifying information, I now consider its source, its potential impact, and its veracity. This mindful approach ensures I am not contributing to the spread of misinformation and actively promoting responsible information sharing.

Learning media and information literacy is a great help to us because as of this time, we are in a world where technology is at work. During the discussion in MIL, I learned the different ways to share information through different types of media. Another lesson I learned is about the ways to gather, store, and analyze information that we can find on the internet.

In gaining this knowledge, I can apply this to my daily life as a person living in the 21st century where technology is needed and important. The ways that I could practice these are the following: firstly, is to be mindful of what I do on the internet. Being mindful of what we do over the internet is a great practice to secure our identity and to avoid problems that could endanger our life. Secondly, is to think before clicking something. Having a deep thought of what to do on the internet is a great help to lessen cybercrimes such as scam and hacking. Lastly, I will never share any personal information with people I don't really know well. Keeping to ourselves personal information will greatly help us to avoid identity theft and will also secure our life while using social media.

To sum up everything it was really a great help to me that I get to learn these things. This will be a great help for me to be safe over the internet. Furthermore, with this knowledge I can help other people to use the internet properly and share to them how important it is to use the web efficiently and securely.
